Jackson Memorial Hospital, West Wing Critical Care Unit (CCU-B) Renovation/Expansion and 9th floor patient rooms. 

4th FL CCU-B Renovation/Expansion: (This project was reviewed and approved by AHCA and ICRA drawings were prepared by PROCON).

100% gut out of the existing space in order to create new CCU-B. New CCU-B consisted of eight (8) beds, one of which was a VIP room and one (1) was an airborne isolation room, clean utility room, soiled utility room, conference room and a centralized nurses station.

New M/E/P systems included the following:

New light fixtures, new plumbing fixtures, new air conditioning diffusers, new constant air volume boxes with hot water heaters, new fire sprinklers (existing space was not fire sprinklered), new exhaust fan and space pressure monitor for isolation room, new nurse call system, new patient monitors, new vertical patient head walls, new electric panels, new electric step-down transformers, new ductwork (high and low pressure), new piping and new controls.

The new Nurse Call System consisted of the following:

New master station for CCU-B and adjacent CCU-A (adjacent CCU-A was connected to this master station installed in CCU-B), Code Blue emergency stations, staff stations, duty stations, annunciator panels, single patient stations, corridor dome lamps and emergency pull cord stations in restrooms.

9th FL Patient Rooms: 

Provided a total of twelve (12) duplex receptacles: one (1) beside each patient bed for new patient monitors (furnished and installed by others) on emergency power and added one (1) new electric panel. Provided one (1) voice, one (1) data and one (1) electrical outlet in each alcove for crash carts. Also provided a total of six (6) voice/data outlets, one (1) per patient room mounted at 54”AFF.

South Miami Hospital Cath Lab Outlets Project

Engineer/design/specify the installation of 3 new 208 Volt outlets (One new outlet per room) in 3 Cath Rooms at Invasive Heart Center (North Tower 2nd floor).

These outlets will be used to plug in Life Support equipment such as heart/lung equipment etc.

These 3 new outlets will be connected to Critical Panel 2CL2B (120/208V, 3ø, 4W) located in the same Cath Lab check control area.

New 2 pole, 20A circuit breakers will be installed in this panel.

South Miami Hospital PBX Room UPS Replacement

Replaced existing Liebert UPS that serves the telecom system for South Miami Hospital in PBX Room with a new 40KVA UPS/PDU. Re-connected new UPS/PDU from central energy plant critical power panel “CDPA”. Removed (3) non-code compliant, existing 120/208 panels “LS2-PBX”, “PBX1” and “LS1” and transferred their associated loads to new PDU panels. Panel “PBX-8” (which was completely empty) will also be removed. Relocated existing public address system rack to replace it with UPS.

Provided temporary power from Critical Power panel to temporary UPS’s thru rack mounted receptacles.

South Miami Hospital, Pavilion Building Visicu Camera Move

(This project was reviewed and approved by AHCA and ICRA drawings were prepared by PROCON).

Electrical Engineering design to remove existing Visicu System from the North Tower 2nd Floor CVCU Rooms 1, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 and re-install existing visicu  cameras with micropone on the 4th floor (rooms 408, 420, 423, 424, 425 and 426) of the Pavilion Building. The rest of the Visicu System components such as e-lert button, monitor, AV server and ceiling mounted speaker will be new and also installed in 4th floor rooms mentioned before.

Design Completion Date: October 2010.

Baptist Hospital of Miami BCVI Sonic Washer Replacement 

Electrical and Plumbing Engineering design to remove existing washer machine and replace with a new Sonic Washer Machine. All provisions to install new Sonic Washer machine were considered. Existing domestic cold and hot water piping was modified with necessary changes to accommodate new Sonic Washer, existing filters for cold and hot water were re-used and new floor drain was added to meet the requirements of the new sonic washer.

Power for the old washer machine was re-used, however, an existing disconnect switch that was powering the old washer machine was removed.

Design Completion Date: November 2010.

South Miami Hospital New Permanent Load Bank Generator 

Provided Electrical engineering and design services for the installation of a new permanent 250KVA, 208V, 3Ø Load Bank in a weather proof enclosure outside existing generator room connected to existing Emergency Switchboard “EDP”. A new 3-pole 800A circuit breaker and new conduits and wire were also installed in existing EDP.

HH eICU Integration into PCU

Provided Electrical engineering/design services and ICRA drawings for the installation of new Philips Visicu Equipment on 2nd floor rooms PEDS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. The equipment consisted of one (1) camera/microphone, one (1) monitor with bracket, one (1) ceiling speaker, one (1) wall mounted alert button and one (1) A/V server per room. Equipment also required the installation of new power and data outlets as well as backing for monitor installation.

HH  16 KVA UPS Install

Provided Mechanical/Electrical engineering/design services and ICRA drawings for the installation of new 16 KVA UPS in rooms Admin 1 North, Admin 2 North, Admin 3 North, Main 3 Central, Main 4 Central, Main 5, Main 3 West, Main 2 West, Main 2 Central, Main 1 Central, Main 1 West, Engineering 1 North and Engineering 1 South. New 16 KVA UPSs were placed in same IT room but different location as existing UPSs so that there would be no UPS power interruption.

BHE Galloway Endoscopy Center HVAC Replacement 

Provided Mechanical, Electrical, Structural engineering/design services and ICRA drawings for the replacement of existing 7.5 ton DX split AC Unit and  30 Ton DX Packaged Rooftop AC Unit with new ones that serve the entire Endoscopy Suite. Also, new exhaust fan, associated supply and exhaust duct and electric duct heater were added to Endoscope cleaning room in order to eliminate unwanted odors.  Due to the replacement of the units new circuit breaker and new conduit and wire were necessary to feed new Fan Coil Unit from existing Panel C. New breaker was also required to connect new DX packaged Rooftop AC  Unit.

South Miami Hospital New Permanent Load Bank for Existing Generator

Provided Electrical engineering and design services and ICRA drawings for the installation of a new permanent 250KVA, 208V, 3Ø Load Bank in a weather proof enclosure outside existing generator room connected to existing Emergency Switchboard “EDP”. A new 3-pole 800A circuit breaker and new conduits and wire were also installed in existing EDP. Existing normal power panels 2NLD1, 3NLD1 and 5NLD1 were transferred to generator power by adding a new 800A ATS, which was fed from main normal power switchboard on the normal side and Emergency Distribution Switchboard (EDP) on the emergency side. New breaker was required on the EDP to feed new ATS while existing breaker was re-used on the EDP. 

Construction Completion Date: June 2015

BHE Miami Lakes Clinic, Rooftop Unit Replacement Project

Provided mechanical and electrical engineering/design services to replace existing 10 ton rooftop unit. Existing DX packaged rooftop unit (RTU-1) and its associated roof curb (and roof curb extension) was removed and replaced with a new DX packaged rooftop unit along with new 24” high roof curb. Existing “Carrier” controls serving RTU-1 and associated VAV boxes were removed and replaced with a new EMS. Existing wall mounted thermostats for said boxes were also removed and replaced with new thermostats.

JMH Add 6 Backflow Preventers to Campus domestic water loop

Add new reduced pressure backflow preventers at the domestic water services of each of the following:

One (1) 8”ø for domestic water loop near Mcknight Vision Center.

One (1) 8”ø for domestic water loop near Ambulatory Care Center.

One (1) 8”ø for Energy Center.

One (1) 8”ø for domestic water loop just north of Energy Center.

One (1) 8”ø for Park Place/Arcade Building.

One (1) 12”ø for domestic water loop West of Rehab Center near NW 12th Avenue.

New backflow preventers will be installed downstream of existing water meters and as close to meters as possible.

Guard posts will be installed if the assembly is exposed to possible damage from vehicular traffic.

New concrete slabs and pipe supports will be designed/specified for the new backflow preventers.

Construction work sequence describing in detail how the construction work will be performed in order to eliminate water service shutdown for the particular building will be included on the drawings. Line stops, wet taps and bypass piping will be used to eliminate any water flow interruption. 

New backflow preventer for Park Place/Arcade Building will have to be installed inside Building because there is no space outside for it. This means that there will be some required piping and miscellaneous work inside the building.

Jackson Memorial Hospital.  East Tower 5th Floor – Adolescent Unit Patient Rooms

Remodeled existing large crib nursery room and converted it into four (4) private patient rooms. This required the following changes: Added four (4) new head walls in their appropriate locations, converted existing two storage rooms into rest room, converted existing closet with one sink into rest room, remodeled one (1) existing rest room, relocation/ removal/ add power outlets, HVAC modifications, medical gas modifications and new lighting. Added new nurse call devices such as new single patient stations, new corridor dome lights and new pull cord stations in restrooms and connected said devices to existing nurse call system in the Building.

South Miami Hospital – Main Receiving Entrance Renovations  

This project was reviewed, permitted and inspected by AHCA.

Performed mechanical and electrical engineering/design as follows:

New lighting, new fire sprinklers and new power for new vestibule (air lock), new covered walkways, new electrical doors, new interior storage room and new exterior chemical storage covered area.
New air conditioning for new vestibule and new interior storage room.
New lightning protection system for new covered walkways.

Design Completion Date: May 2015

PROCON Role in Project: MEP Consultant.

Gastrointestinal Clinic of Hialeah, Miami-Dade County Major Architectural and M/E/P Renovations including new emergency generator in order to meet AHCA requirements

HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and electrical engineering design as follows:

-New HVAC system for entire GI Clinic building including new a/c units, new ductwork, new exhaust system and new controls.

-Major plumbing changes as required to accommodate new architectural floor plan.

-New emergency generator, new electric panel boards, new Automatic Transfer Switches and major electrical changes as required to accommodate new architectural floor plan, new a/c equipment and AHCA requirements.

-New fire sprinklers for entire building.

-New nurse call system for patient areas including new staff stations, duty stations, nurse call annunciator panels, single patient stations, corridor dome lamps, emergency pull cords stations in restrooms and new nurse call master station.

-New Fire Alarm system.

Design Completion Date: March 2007

University of Miami, Hospital/Clinics building and Sylvester Cancer Center, Miami-Dade County Major upgrades to Fire Alarm System 

Designed/engineered the replacement/addition as required of all initiating devices and fire alarm panels throughout these two buildings.
